Victor Kampenaerts told Belgian media that two or even three Belgians could be on the podium in this week's world championship individual time trial.
The 54km test will take place on Wednesday in Yorkshire, England, where Campenaerts, the current Hour record holder, along with 19-year-old Remco Evenpole, the current European time trial champion, and Yves Lampert, who recently won the Tour of Slovakia Campenaerts, the current Hour record holder, will represent Belgium.
Campenaerts will face 2019 Vuelta a EspaƱa winner Primos Roglic (Slovenia) as one of the favourites, as well as TT world champion Rohan Dennis (Australia).
Meanwhile, Britain's Geraint Thomas will not be competing in the time trial, but will compete in Sunday's road race.
"I think highly of Roglic, and Evenpoel has developed into a top rider in all aspects," Campenaerts told VTM Nieuws, according to HLN.be.
"But I think the podium is mine. The course couldn't be more suitable for Yves [Lampert] and he is in great shape.
"But I also like the course a lot. It will be fun for the fans to watch and I hope to do as well as I did last year," said Kampenaerts, who finished third at the 2018 World Championships in Innsbruck, Austria, behind Denis and Dutchman Tom Dumoulin, although the latter is not participating in this year's World Championships.
