Larry UHC Cycling has finalized its 2020 roster with the addition of Nate Brown from EF Education First.
Brown will bring European and Grand Tour experience to the U.S. Pro Continental team after Svein Taft retired after the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal.
"It's been a great six years, but after taking a step back and talking to my family, I decided that Rally UHC Cycling was the best fit for what I still want to accomplish in cycling," Brown said in a statement released by Rally UHC.
." I am really looking forward to the opportunity to lead.""" I look forward to seeing what I can do."
Brown came through USA Cycling's development program and Axel Merckx's U23 team before signing with Slipstream's Garmin Sharp team in 2014. His career highlights to date include two days in the polka-dot mountain jersey at the 2017 Tour de France, fourth place in stage 10 of the 2016 Giro d'Italia, and second place in the 2013 U23 Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
His last victory came in 2013 when he won the UCI 2.2 Tour de Beauce overall with the Mercs' Bontrager team.
"My biggest goal for next year is to win races," Brown said.
"It's been years since I've raised my hand for a win. I think it's a fresh start that gives the team a lot of opportunities and I feel I haven't reached my full potential yet."
Brown is an especially important addition as the team lost veteran road captain Danny Pate after the 2018 season and also lost Pate's replacement, Taft, this year. Brown brings the benefit of European and World Tour experience, even though he is only 28 years old.
"We definitely look forward to Nate's leadership," said Larry UHC Performance Director Jonas Carney.
"He has competed full time in Europe for a number of years, completing six Grand Tours and wearing the KOM jersey at the Tour de France. He has a lot of knowledge to share with the rest of the team."
[22Kearney praised Brown's experience and ability as a road captain, but he also acknowledged that the athlete still has the physical ability to pursue results on his own.
"Nate has spent almost all of his time on the World Tour working for others. And our racing program will give him a chance in 2020."
Brown is the third and final player to join the Rally UHC men's 2020 roster, following the recent signings of Stephen Bassett and Nicholas Zukofsky. With the departure of Brandon McNulty to Team UAE Emirates and the retirement of Taft and Evan Huffman, Rally UHC Cycling will return all 13 remaining players for the 2020 season.
The 2020 roster will be announced officially on December 6 in the team's hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota, after a team-building camp in Sedona, Arizona, in November.
