Australia's Chris Harper has signed a two-year deal with Jumbo-Visma to start next season, with the 24-year-old joining the Dutch WorldTour team from his Continental affiliate, Team Bridge Lane.
Harper won the 2018 Oceania Championships road race, took a stage and overall win at this season's Tour of Japan in May, and two stage and overall wins at the Tour de Savoie-Mont-Blanc in June.
Harper was already having a strong season this year, starting with a second place finish in the national championship road race in January, followed by an aggressive ride in the Tour Down Under and a fourth place overall finish at the Herald Sun Tour in February.
He then finished third in the Oceania Championships road race in Railton, Tasmania, before winning the Tour of Japan, and fifth overall in the Tour of Bihore-Belot in Romania.
His good form continued through the Tour de Savoie-Mont-Blanc in France, but he was forced to abandon the second stage of the Tour of Utah in August due to illness.
However, that disappointment was remedied by the chance to step up to the World Tour level, and Harper was joined by recent Vuelta a España winner Primoš Roglic, Belgian star Wout van Aert, 2017 Giro d'Italia champion Tom Dumoulin, and New Zealander George Bennett, among others.
"I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to join Team Jumbo-Visma," Harper said on the team website. 'It's a great environment for me to not only help the team achieve its goals, but also to continue to grow as a rider.'
Merijn Zeeman, Jumbo Visma's sports director, added, "Chris has excelled on the Continental Circuit. Chris has excelled on the Continental Circuit. We think he can do more on his own, which is why we gave him a chance at the World Tour level."
