DNA Pro Cycling will return to the UCI level in 2020 for the first time since 2017 to capitalize on the excitement of women's cycling and expanded opportunities in the U.S. for women's teams.
"With a strong criterium scene including the Colorado Classic, Amgen Tour of California Women's Race, USA CRITS, and the success of Team USA with multiple rainbow jersey wins at the World Championships, women's racing is gaining momentum in North America. We are ready to be a UCI team and join again to race hard, develop more female athletes, and put on a show for cycling fans."
"The 2020 women's race will be exciting, challenging, and rewarding. 'We are eager for all of it. Getting sponsors, supporting athletes, and making each race a success will be increasingly competitive, but we believe that nothing meaningful will be easy."
[6The US team is now in its eighth year and currently has 10 athletes under contract for the 2020 season. These include team captain Heather Fisher and up-and-coming junior racer Katie Kruse, who was instrumental in USA Cycling junior teammate Megan Jastrab's road race gold medal win at the recent UCI Road World Championships.
The pair includes New Zealand rider Mikaela Drummond, a former junior world champion in track, and an American rider who took a break from cycling to medal in long track speed skating at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Mia Kilburg [formerly Manganello] will join the DNA kit.
Other newcomers include Margot Klein, a collegiate national champion and climbing specialist, and Liza Rachette, a three-time Giro Rosa finisher who brings a wealth of experience from her former teams Tibco and Hagens Berman-Supermint Liza Rachette.
Hannah Mugge, Kimberly Lucy, Brenna Bly Simpson, and Sarah Kaufman round out the roster announced so far.
