Jumbo Visma materializes for 2020 with contract extensions for experienced riders

Dutch WorldTour team Jumbo Visma is increasingly likely to challenge Team Ineos' domination of the Tour de France next season. The recent announcement that four veteran riders, Tom Rieser, Bert-Jan Lindemann, Paul Martens, and Maarten Winants, have re-signed for 2020 strengthens their claim.

The addition of Dumoulin, the 2017 Giro d'Italia champion who joins from Sunweb, for 2020 means that all three of the team's stars will compete in next summer's Tour de France in Nice, and Egan Bernal, Geraint Thomas, Chris Froome could be a threat to Ineos' dominance.

Roglic won the Vuelta a EspaƱa in August, and Kruijswijk was third overall in the Tour in July. With the added firepower of Dumoulin, Jumbo Visma could be even stronger than this season in the Grand Tours.

But without domestiques, the team would be nothing. Australian climber Chris Harper recently joined from Team Bridge Lane, and the Dutch team also announced contract extensions for Reeser, Lindemann, Martens, and Weinanz.

"I have experienced the team's development up close and personal," the 37-year-old Wynants said in a press release.

"I look forward to serving as road captain for another year. My ultimate dream is to win the Monument next spring with this team." As for one-day races, the team has backed young Belgian star Wout Van Aert for the spring classics, which should prove to be a strong showing.

"I've been racing with this team for almost 15 years. It's been a good year and I've enjoyed building on our success." [35-year-old Martens and 30-year-old Dutchman Lindemann also echoed their teammates' sentiments.

"I am very happy and proud to remain part of this successful team. I have contributed to the growth of the team over the last few years. I hope to help many young talents and I am happy that my experience is appreciated in this way," said German rider Martens.

"It's great to be able to ride with such a great team. I feel at home here and am very happy with my new contract."

Merijn Zeeman, Jumbo Visma's sporting director, added: "I am very happy to be here. Tom, Paul, Bert-Jan, and Maarten are true team players.

." I am very pleased with their loyalty to our team."
