Roompot-Charles team to disband at the end of 2019.

The Roompot-Charles (open in new tab) team will disband at the end of this year, it was announced on Friday.

Earlier this year, Dutch holiday company Roompot announced it would end its sponsorship at the end of 2019, and team bosses have been unable to find a replacement.

"We waited as long as possible to send this press release. After all, we kept hoping that a solution would be found somewhere, even though it seems less and less likely with each passing day," team manager Michal Zyrald said in a statement on Friday.

"Now, unfortunately, it is conclusive. After five exciting years, I bid farewell to professional cycling with the team."

The team, which includes Lars Boom and Pieter Weening, will race the Tacx Pro Classic and Paris-Tours before its final race at Sluitingsprijs Putte-Kapellen on October 15. Boom and Sean De Bie are Charles cyclo-cross team for the last race of the year.

Dutch team Roompot was launched at the beginning of 2015, while Belgian team Willem-Crelan of Veranda focused on cyclocross, with Nick Nuyens running a limited road program as manager.

The teams joined forces for the 2019 season, with Nuyens initially trying to arrange a merger with former Irish pro continental team Aqua Blue Sport. The negotiations created a rift with Veranda's star rider Wout Van Aert, who managed to get out of his contract for 2019 in order to move to Jumbo Visma a year earlier than planned.

Without Van Aert, the team has won three races so far in 2019, and the project is now finished, leaving many riders and staff to find employment for next year.

Seven riders have now signed contracts with other teams for 2020, including Stijn Steels with Deceuninck-QuickStep. The others are Boy Van Poppel, Mauritz Lammertink, Oscar Riesebeek, Senne Leysen, Justin Timmermans, and Nick van der Reike.

"Over the last few years, many riders have been able to wear our team colors and show their worth. I am proud that many of them have been able to move on to the World Tour and other professional teams," said Nuyins.

"Now some of the riders and staff have already found their places for next year. We hope all of them will do well." We will help them find new employers.

Loompot-Charles is one of the teams that will cease to exist at the end of this season, along with other Pro Continental affiliated teams such as Euskadi-Murias in Spain and Nippo-Vini Fantini in Italy.

Israel Cycling Academy will take over Katusha-Alpecin's World Tour license and merge its roster into one team, while Axel Merckx's Axeon Hagens Berman Development Team will retire to the continental level, Two more holes will be left open in Pro Conti. [Norway's Uno-X team has stepped up from the Continental level, and Hungary's E-Powers factory team, backed by Hungarian electric bike expert Stefano Varjas' bike brand, and former Italian professional reportedly founded by Sandro Lerici.

"Above all, we want to look back positively and bring good memories with us," said Zailardo, reflecting on the Room Pot team's activities.

"Besides, it is not inappropriate to say that we have always been a clean team. We have never had any serious problems, we have always acted correctly and fulfilled our financial obligations to the UCI and other stakeholders.

"We have represented, to the best of our ability, the many partners who have placed their trust in our project. It was the best way to thank them for their trust."
