Ruling on Liege-Bastogne-Liege bribery allegations involving Vinokurov and Kolobnev delayed

The final verdict in the case of Alexandre Vinokurov's alleged bribery of Alexandre Kolobnev in Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 2010 was supposed to be announced on October 8, but was postponed until October 22.

The Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad's website nieuwsblad.be reported Monday that the verdict had to be postponed due to the "excessive workload" of the correctional court in Liège.

Belgian prosecutors last month sought six-month prison sentences for Astana general manager Vinokurov and Kolobnev, who retired after the 2016 season. They also sought a fine of €100,000 for Vinokurov and €50,000 for Kolobnev, and the forfeiture of €150,000 from Kolobnev's bank account.

The sums were allegedly paid to Kolobnev in return for Vinokourov's victory in the 2010 race, an accusation that was revealed in 2011 when the Swiss magazine L'Illustré published an e-mail exchange between the two athletes after the race. Both athletes have denied the accusations.
