Mitchelton Scott announced Wednesday that it has renewed Lucy Kennedy's contract for 2020. The Australian native will bring confidence to the new season after a successful three-win season.
"I made a lot of progress this year and am happy with the season," said Scott. 'I'm looking forward to stepping up again and helping the team even more and starting next year on a really positive note and trying to keep it going.'
Kennedy joined Mitchelton Scott at the beginning of 2018, but a combination of illness and injury set back her performance. She finished second overall on the Santos Women's Tour this year and won the Herald Sun Tour overall.
She then won the Durango Durango Emacmen Sarria, was second in a stage at the Giro Rosa, and won the first Donostia San Sebastian Classicoa.
"I think I proved that I can perform when given the chance," Kennedy said. It's an honor and a privilege to ride for riders like Anne-Mike [van Flugten] and Amanda [Spratt]. Having riders like this on the team makes me feel special to be given the opportunity, and I really appreciate it."
"I can't believe how strong the team will be next year, especially in the hard mountain races. This year we were given a lot of work early in the race so we may not have been there in the second half of the race, but next year we will be able to share that work and get more people in the finals."
Mitchelton-Scott has not announced its full 2020 roster, but Kennedy will be joined by returning rider and new world champion Annemiek van Fruten, who was under contract through next year. The team also announced the signings of Janneke Ensing from WNT-Rotor and Sophie de Vuyst from Parkhotel Valkenburg.
