The UCI has released its international road calendar for 2020. . including details of the Pro Series, a new mid-level series that will replace the HC class.
Men's road racing will be under a new structure starting in January 2020, with races divided into three categories: the World Tour, the Pro Series, and the Continental Tours of Europe, America, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.
The Pro Series will consist of 54 races drawn from the current .HC and .1 classes, with 26 stage races and 28 one-day races. European races make up the majority of the Pro Series, which runs from February to October, with five races in Asia and two in the United States.
The Tour of Turkey is a new addition to the class, having been dropped from the World Tour after three years. The new Maryland Classic will also be included in the Pro Series, as will all 19 current 2.HC stage races.
However, only 17 of the 23 1.HC one-day races will be included, and the Ronde Van Drenthe, GP Canton Aargau, Tour de Euro-Metropole, GP Bruno Beguerry, and Tre Valli Virginie will all move from .HC to 1.1 Continental HC to 1.1 Continental.
Notable UCI Pro Series events include the Coure Brussel-Coulomb (March 1), Tour of the Alps (April 20-24), Norwegian Arctic Race (August 6-9), Tour of Britain (September 6-13), Paris-Tour (October 11) (October 11), among others.
