Viviani finishes 2nd in the Detunink Quickstep.

Elia Viviani ended his two seasons with Dečuninck-Quick Step with a runner-up finish at the Tacx Pro Classic in the Netherlands on Saturday. The Italian sprinter finished second behind Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo-Visma) in the last race, just missing the Belgian team's victory by a whisker.

Viviani has 29 wins in two seasons with Dečuninck-Quick Step, including four stage wins at the 2018 Giro d'Italia, three stage wins at the 2018 Vuelta a España, and a stage win at this year's Tour de France Includes.

The Italian's most recent victory came in August, when he won three in a row, beginning with the RideLondon Classic, followed by the European Championships and the Euro Eyes Classic. His last win with the Belgian team came in September at the Tour of Slovakia.

"It feels a little weird that this is my last race with the team," he said after the Tacx Pro Classic. [These past two years have been truly incredible and a big step forward for me as a rider. I want to thank everyone on the team, from the riders to the mechanics, from Soigner to Patrick [Lefebvre].

Team manager Patrick Lefevre had similar praise for the riders signed for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

"Having Elia on the team for the last two years has been a real pleasure for both of us. 'From the Giro to the Tour, and from national races to WorldTour one-day races, he has won so many beautiful races. Equally important, he showed his professionalism right to the end of the season, which means a lot to us.

On Saturday, Deceuninck-QuickStep worked to hold off a breakaway in the Tacx Pro Classic, bringing it back to the front of the local circuit with 20km to go and controlling things until the finale.

With 300m to go, Florian Seneschal dropped Viviani, and the Italian began his sprint at 200m. However, Viviani was unable to hold off Groenewegen and finished in second place. It was not the ideal farewell that Viviani had hoped for, but he was nonetheless happy with his two years with the team.

"I am happy to leave these two wonderful years with so many memories and so many beautiful things," Viviani said. 'It's impossible to name just one special moment. There are countless unforgettable moments that I've had with the Wolfpack. It was an honor to run for this team and with such a great group of people."
