Clara Koppenburg leaves WNT-Rotor to return to Bigla Pro Cycling and assume a leadership role in the 2020 season. The German climber will focus on selection for the Tokyo Olympics and the World Championships in Switzerland.
"My strengths lie in the descents and especially in the climbs in stage races.
"My other goals are the Olympics, the World Championships, and defending my title in Valencia. I'm also looking forward to rejoining my teammates and everyone at Bigla, and I can't wait to get started," she said.
Koppenburg, 24, began her professional career with Bigla in 2015 and spent the next four seasons there; in 2019, she moved to the WNT-Rotor team, where she enjoyed success winning the overall title with Setmana Ciclista Valenciana.
She took some time off due to injury, but returned to racing at the Tour of California in May, finishing fourth overall. He then finished 13th overall at the Emmacmen Vila, 7th overall at the Tour de Bretagne, 5th overall at the Giro Toscana, and 2nd overall at the Tour de l'Ardèche.
"My years with Bigla were great, I learned a lot while I was with the team and grew as a rider. When I left the team I realized that this aspect was somewhat lacking, so I am very happy to be back at Bigla next year.
"The atmosphere is great, I get along well with the riders and the whole team is very professional. Director Thomas Campana brings out the best in the riders and I feel I can grow a lot in this kind of environment."
The team has had enough success over the years with the likes of Ashley Moolman Passio, who moved to CCC-Liv last year, and Cecilie Uttrup-Ludwig, who will move to FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope in 2020.
In a team press release, Campana said that Coppenburg will take on the role of co-leader in the Ardennes Classics and stage races.
