Mitchelton Scott announced Tuesday that it has renewed Gracie Elvin's contract for one year through the end of 2020. The contract extension will bring Elvin to the Australian program for an eighth consecutive season.
"I'm really happy," said Elvin. I've been with this team since 2013 and I've always felt really happy, I've been with this team since 2013 and I've always felt really happy to be with this team, I've been with this team since 2013 and I've always felt really happy to be with this team."
Erwin began his professional career with Farren Honda in 2012, but moved to Orica AIS in 2013. She remained with Orica AIS until the sponsor changed to Mitchelton Scott.
She became one of the team's and peloton's most experienced support riders. She was once a two-time national champion and played a key role in Annemiek van Fruten's Giro Rosa win in 2017.
"It's such a great environment to be in as a person and as a rider, so I'm happy to stay on the team and continue with some of the girls I've raced with for so long and to meet some new faces," Erwin said. [I am always trying to find ways to challenge myself, so I am going to pick some challenges for next year. I don't really know what those are yet, but I've always loved the classics. So I'm looking forward to going back to Belgium again."
Mitchelton-Scott is one of eight teams applying to enter the top level of the UCI's new two-team system in 2020. The team has already announced the new additions of Jessica Roberts, Sophie de Vuyst (from Parkhotel Valkenburg), and Janneke Ensing (from WNT-Roter). Returning riders include world champion Annemiek van Fruten, Grace Brown, Lucy Kennedy, and Moniek Tenigro.
"I think it is really important for our team to have a European taste. It has been part of our success from the beginning. I think it's great to keep adding new blood, different perspectives, different ages, different experience levels.
"You don't have to be the same to be successful. It's important to keep evolving and changing, both as individuals and as a team."
