Mitchelton Scott announced Friday that it has re-signed Jessica Allen for 2020. The Australian has been a major contributor to the team's success in the classics and will once again be looking to support riders like Annemiek Van Hulten in one-day and stage races.
"I love the culture and atmosphere of this team, the riders we have are the best in the world, it's great to ride for them and I am getting stronger by riding for them," Allen, who joined Orica AIS in 2016 and has been with the team for all four seasons so far He said.
"Every year I feel like I'm improving and getting better, and I hope to be able to contribute to even harder races next year. I like to target the classics and I like the technical side of things, so that's what I'll focus on next year.
According to coach Martin Vestby, Allen is one of the best domestiques on the team and often serves as on-road captain during races.
"Jess steps up and gets stronger every year. She is the glue of the team, takes her domestique role seriously and takes pride in her work. She is a valuable rider, navigates the team in races, positions herself well, and does the hard work early in the race. [We have seen improvements that have allowed her to last longer and do more in races.
." She is also a big team player off the bike, even outside of racing, which I think is very important.
Mitchelton-Scott is one of eight teams applying to enter the top level of the UCI's new two-team system in 2020.
The team has already announced the new additions of Jessica Roberts, Sophie de Vuyst (from Parkhotel Valkenburg), and Janneke Ensing (from WNT-Rotor). Returning riders include world champion Annemiek van Fruten, Gracie Elvin, Grace Brown, Lucy Kennedy, and Moniek Tenigro.
"I think next year will be a big step forward for the team with three new really strong riders," Allen said. 'We've had fewer riders in the past, so we'll be able to spread them out and aim for better races.'
