Jens Debusschere has signed a two-year contract with the Pro Continental team and will join B&B Hotels - Vital Concepts for 2020. The former Belgian champion will join B&B Hotels-Vital Concept after spending one season with Katusha-Alpecin; in 2020, Katusha will merge with Israel Cycling Academy; in 2020, he will join B&B Hotels-Vital Concept, which will be part of the Pro Continental team.
Dubushele, winner of the 2016 Douars de Hlaanderen, is a cobblestone specialist and will be making speedy turns on the finishing straight. Incidentally, Dubushele's victory in the Duwals der Fullerndelen came at the expense of Cocard.
"That victory had a special flavor because it was the day after the terrorist attack at Brussels airport," Debusschere said in a statement released Monday. 'Bryan said that given the circumstances, it was better that a Belgian rider won. Since then we have often crossed paths. I never beat him again, but our relationship remains great."
Dubuchet, who has won 15 races in a professional career that began with Lotto Soudal, has sacrificed his own sprinting ambitions for the past few seasons in order to fulfill his role as lead-out man. He will team up with former teammates Chris Beckmanns and Jonas Van Genechten in his new team. 'Leading out of sprints is what I do best,' he said. Bryan is a top sprinter and has proven he has the qualities to win big races."[7
Duboucher admitted that Coquard is the sprinter of choice if both riders are in the lead group in the Ghent-Wevelgem finale, but he described the race as the equivalent of his world championships. He has four top-10 finishes in Ghent-Wevelgem, including fifth-place finishes in 2015 and 2018.
"Like most Flemish riders, I'm concentrating on the six weeks between Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Paris-Roubaix, but I don't think I'll win the Tour de Flanders. The course is getting too hard for me and I'm at my limit. I've finished in the top 10 twice in Roubaix, but one day it will be hard to win." On the other hand, I can win in Ghent-Wevelgem. I'm crazy about that race. It's a race that was made for me. I've always done well. It's my world championship."
Debusschere is the fourth newcomer announced by B&B Hotels - Vital Concept for 2020, following Cyril Barthe (Euskadi Murias), Tom Jelte Slatter (Dimension Data), and Frederic Bacquer (Wanty Groupe Gobert). He is the fourth newcomer to the team.
