Marianne Bos wins 2019 Women's World Tour

Marianne Vos (CCC-Liv) has won the 2019 Women's WorldTour title thanks to a third-place finish in the collective sprint at the Tour of Guangxi Guilin. With this result, the Dutchwoman earned 125 UCI points to take the title, just over 124 points ahead of world champion Annemiek van Vleuten (Mitchelton-Scott).

Vos was the first to sprint on the wet surface and came close to adding to her 2019 win total of 19. the 32-year-old surged to the front but was passed at the line by winner Chloe Hosking (Ale Cipollini) and runner-up Alice Jackson (Team Chibuco-SVB). Still, she said she accomplished her main goal for the day.

"It wasn't my goal all season," Vos said of her Women's World Tour title after celebrating with her teammates at the finish.

"But now that I'm so close, standing in that position and getting those points was definitely the goal.

"I went through the last corner in second or third and then my pace really picked up. I couldn't hold it until the finish but it was OK for me, my main goal was to get six points so I'm happy with that.

Vos was especially grateful to her team for helping her along the way in this season, her highest win total since 2014. This included four stages at the Giro Rosa, three stages and the overall win at the Ladies Tour of Norway, and victories at the Trofeo Alfredo Binda and La Course by Le Tour de France.

"I am very grateful to my team, not only for this race but for the whole year. They have helped me in all the races of the World Tour and have given me consistent results throughout the season.

"I'm very happy. It was a very good season. I was in good shape during the winter and of course I was hoping that it would show in the results.

One would imagine that after a long season, Boss would be looking forward to being off the bike. But instead, she will be in Asia with the team, first visiting team sponsor Giant, then participating in the Taiwan KOM Challenge, and then scouting the course for the Tokyo Olympics.

Cyclocross season is next on the menu. Last season he won seven mud races, including five wins by the end of October, but this year he will start his cross-cross campaign later in the year.

"After Asia, I'll take some time off and do some cycling," he said. Then I'll be back to cyclocross in December."

Marianne Vos, Women's World Tour Champion - It's a fitting end to her 2019 season, sort of a surprise that it's not already part of her Palma. What's not so surprising, however, is that she currently holds the title, and as far as this year is concerned, there are no signs of her slowing down at all.
