New Zealand's Jack Bauer has extended his contract with Mitchelton Scott through 2020.
"It has been a great two years I have spent with the team and I am very happy," Bauer said in a press release. 'I've learned so much and developed great relationships with this team. It's a great team on a personal level, but it's also a really high-performing and innovative organization.
"In that sense, I'm really happy to be here. It fits my personal goals, my ambitions, and my style as a rider.
Bauer will celebrate his 13th year as a professional in 2020. In the past, he has ridden for British teams Endura Racing, Garmin (now EF Education First), and Quick Step, and has stage wins at the 2011 Tour of Utah and the 2016 Tour of Britain.
"First of all, I'm here to do a job," Bauer continued of his role at Mitchelton Scott. 'I'm a trusted teammate, ready to support the team's overall goals and ambitions race by race.' [Personally,] when the opportunity comes my way, I want to seize it. But when the opportunity comes my way, I do my best." I want to be a little more responsible when it comes to next year's Spring Classic. That's my goal."
Bauer admitted that he is "not the most outspoken person," but "I think the way I carry myself and the example I set every day is important, and we spend a lot of time together in cycling.
"We move as a group, we live as a group, we train together. The example that Matt Heyman and Michael Albasini have set for me is definitely something I aim to replicate with the younger guys on the team, and I want to pass on what I know," Bauer said of his two older teammates on the team.
"Jack is part of our engine room. He did a great job at the Giro d'Italia." So we are very happy to extend Jack's career with us and see great value in what he can offer to this organization."
"We are very excited to have Jack on board.
