Sebastian Henao extends his contract with Team Ineos

Colombian rider Sebastian Henao has extended his contract and will ride for Team Ineos for two more seasons.

Henao, 26, joined Team Ineos (then Team Sky) in 2014 and has since led the team in six Grand Tours.

"I am very excited to continue with this great team," Henao said on the Team Ineos website about the announcement. I've felt at home here since my first season, it's like a second family to me. Everyone on the team, both the riders and the staff, are great to work with and I've learned a lot in my six years here.

"I like week-long races, especially the Grand Tours. 'I want to keep improving and developing my skills in these races. Now I have more experience and I can contribute more and give my all to help the team."

Xavier Arteche, race coach for Team Ineos, said Henao's progress in 2019, the first time he has raced two Grand Tours in one season (Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a EspaƱa), as one of the team's highly regarded domestiques, He said it shows that he is ready to take it to the next level.

"Sebastian has become a really good support rider. He continues to grow in this role and is a solid rider in the mid-mountain region."

"He is gaining experience with each passing season, including big races like the Giro and Paris-Nice. His sporting directors and mentors all have faith in him and with two Grand Tours this season, he is approaching an important point in his career. He is in a great environment to continue to improve and stay solid throughout the season."

Henao's cousin, Sergio, also spent six years with the British team, but moved to UAE team Emirates at the start of the 2019 season.
