Jumbo Bisma has announced the acquisition of Christoph Pfingsten from Bora-Hansgrohe. The German will be the team's fourth and final new player for the 2020 season.
"Team Jumbo Visma is one of the best teams in the world. The team has gotten bigger and more professional in the last few years. I am very happy that the team needs me and that I have this opportunity," Pfingsten said in a statement released Wednesday.
Pfingsten has spent the past five seasons with Bora-Hansgrohe, completing the Vuelta a España in 2016 and 2017 and competing in the Giro d'Italia in 2018.The 31-year-old has never won a race as a professional, but he has been reliable across a variety of terrain He has established himself as a domestique. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the Dutch Continental team De Reike.
"In addition to the players I know from the peloton, I am also familiar with my compatriots Tony Martin and Paul Martens. I was also teammates with Dylan Groenewegen on the cycling team De Reike a few years ago."
Fingsten is the last rider to be added to the Jumbo-Visma roster for the 2020 campaign. Youngsters Tobias Foss (Norway) and Chris Harper (Australia) will also step up to the World Tour level.
Jumbo Visma will retain most of its successful 2019 roster, including Vuelta a España winner Primoš Roglic and sprinter Dylan Groenewegen, both of whom have extended their contracts until the end of 2023.
Sepp Kuss and Antoine Torhoek are among the seven riders who have extended their contracts, while key riders such as Tour de France podium finisher Steven Kruijswijk and Tour stage winners Mike Tunissen and Wout van Aert have already signed future season contracts.
Others such as Nielson Powles, who left the team to join EF Education First, and Danny van Poppel, who moved to Wanty Group Gobert.
