The number 143 will never again be worn at the Tour de Pollogne in memory of Björg Lambrecht, who died during this year's race.
Lambrecht was wearing the 143 dossard when he crashed on stage 3 of this year's race.
In a statement in Lambrecht's memory released Friday, Tour de Pollogne organizers announced that they would retire the number 143 from 2020.
"We carry the memory of Björg Lambrecht in our hearts every day, but today is All Saints' Day, so please light a candle for him wherever you are. We will do so," the message said.
"And we officially confirm that the number #143 will never be worn again at the Tour de Pollogne. It's #ForBjorg. We will always remember you."
According to an investigation by Polish prosecutors, Lambrecht's crash was caused by reflectors built into the side of the road.
According to Polish media reports, "As a result, he lost control of his motorcycle and suddenly turned right and then left," said prosecutor Malwina Paweła-Zengerolz.
Lambrecht, 22, was riding his second professional season with Lotto Soudal when he ultimately struck a concrete pipe and suffered serious liver injuries. Lambrecht was resuscitated and taken to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive surgery.
The Tour de Pollogne continued the next day with a neutral stage, with all teams riding in front of the peloton for several kilometers, and after a minute of silence, the Lotto-Soudal riders crossed the finish line.
