While Mathieu van der Poel's return to cyclocross made headlines on Sunday at the fourth round of the Superprestige Series in Ruddervoorde, Belgium, Dutchman Corendon-Circus teammate Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado won the women's event and returned to the top of the overall standings.

On a day of great success for both the men's and women's divisions of Corendon-Circus, Alvarado's win puts the 21-year-old back on top of the rankings after winning the season opener in Jeeten. The victory also bodes well for her defense of her under-23 title at next weekend's Cyclocross European Championships.

World champion Sanne Canto (IKO-Crelan) was second, 19 seconds behind. The Belgian rider was forced to miss Friday's Koppencross after suffering a back injury in the warm-up for the Superprestige in Gavères the previous weekend. [777 Yara Kastelein lost the lead to her Dutch compatriot and is now in second place, three points behind.

Van der Pol's victory in the men's race was unexpected, but Lawrence Sułek (Pauwels Sausen Bingor) and Toon Aerts of the Telenet Baloise Lions took second and third places, leaving them both 45 points behind after half of the eight rounds. At the top of the standings, Aerts' teammates Korne Van Kessel and Quinten Hermans are also tied on two points.

Meanwhile, in Friday's opening round of the DVV Trophy Series, the Koppenberg Cross, Castelline beat 777 teammates Annemarie Worst and Alice Maria Alzufi for the women's win, and the men's win on a course that included the famous cobbled Koppenberg climb Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sausen Bingor) won the race against Trinity Racing's Tom Pidcock.

As a result, the 22-year-old Yzerbito now leads the overall DVV and World Cup standings and is just four points out of sixth place in the Superprestige, having finished fifth in Rudervoorde on Sunday.

The next round will be the UEC Cyclocross European Championships in Silber, Italy on November 10, but no other major 'cross competitions will be held until the following weekend, and the World Cup will resume with Round 4 in Tabor, Czech Republic on November 16, followed by the DVV Trophy Round 2 will be held on November 17.
