Tour of Britain and Women's Tour continue without OVO Energy

Organizers of the Tour of Britain (2.HC) and the Women's Tour (Women's World Tour) have confirmed to Cycling News that the two events will continue in 2020. Sweet Spot announced earlier this week that OVO Energy will no longer sponsor the two events.

"At this time, OVO Energy will not remain with the races in any form. However, we would like to emphasize that we maintain a great relationship with them.

Sweet Spot is looking for a new title sponsor, but told Cycling News that it does not need to rely on new partnerships in order to continue the Tour of Britain, Women's Tour, and Tour Series events as planned next year. [The men's Tour of Britain and the women's Tour are confirmed for the UCI calendar in September and June, respectively.

The current Tour of Britain began in 2004 and became a 2.HC-sanctioned event in 2014 through this year. The Women's Tour debuted as a 2.1 event in 2014, but joined the Women's World Tour in 2016, quickly rising to the top level of professional bicycle racing.

In 2017, OVO Energy took over the title sponsorship of both events. This brought the total prize money for the Tour of Britain and the Women's Tour to parity, which this year was contested for €97,880.

Hodges said that funds for the events are set aside for next year, but the title sponsorship will allow organizers to expand each of the three events.

"Sweet Spot has built the event on a sustainable model based on the local government funding it receives from the areas the race visits and its established portfolio of commercial partners and suppliers to the event," Hodges said.

"Obviously, having a title sponsor allows us to do more with each event, making it bigger and better for everyone involved. Whether it's improved infrastructure, additional support activities and events, or an improved fan experience along the way or at home."

"The title sponsorship is a great way to make sure that each event is a success,"

and "it's a great way to make sure that each event is a success.

Sweet Spot is looking for a new title brand to replace OVO Energy, but Hodges said there is no deadline for finding such a partnership, although they hope to secure funding by spring 2020.

"There is no specific deadline for finding a title sponsor, something we are already working on with brands and agencies," Hodges said. 'Specifically, we're trying to make sure that our new title partner will benefit from the exposure and preparation for the women's tour in June.'

Next year, the women's tour is scheduled to run from June 8-13 and the 2. pro men's tour from September 6-13.
