The third and final race of Australia's 2019/20 national criterium series will take place in Adelaide on the evening of January 25, following the men's Tour Down Under final stage.
As part of the first-ever collaboration between the WorldTour stage race organizers and Cycling South Australia, the Night Riders event, featuring elite racing for men and women, will begin at 5:30 pm and conclude around 8:30 pm.
The central Adelaide, 1km-long circuit has already been used for the final stage of the Women's Tour Down Under and the Schwalbe Classic on January 19 (the latter precedes the first stage of the stage race on January 21, where the men's TDU field will face each other) A portion of the course will be used and the same start/finish line on Flinders Street will be used.
"The inaugural year of the 2018 National Criterium Series is a great start to bringing the sport closer to fans by hosting the event in the city center," Kip Kaufman, General Manager of Cycling Australia Sport said in a press release. [The addition of the Nightriders to the Tour Down Under puts the series alongside Australia's legendary criterium races. We look forward to another exciting series this year with these events attracting some of the world's top riders."
The series opener, the Stan Sijka Launceston Cycling Classic, will be held on December 8 on a circuit around Launceston's City Park, and the well-established Tasmanian race will feature three past Tour de France stage winners Caleb Yuan and four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome were among the spectators at the circuit, the latter joining his friend and now former teammate Richie Porte while visiting Tasmania in 2014.
The following week, the event moves to Melbourne, where the popular Shimano SuperCrit will host the second round. After the Christmas and New Year break, Round 3 will be decided at the Night Riders event in Adelaide on the evening of January 25.
The same afternoon, Stage 5 of the Tour Down Under will finish in Victor Harbor, and the following day, the sixth and final stage will finish in Willunga Hill.
