Trek-Segafredo has announced its men's roster for the 2020 season, and four-time Grand Tour winner Vincenzo Nibali is one of nine new faces next year.
The 34-year-old, who moves from Bahrain-Merida, will be joined by his brother Antonio and several staff members. Kenny Elizondo (Team Ineos), Emils Liepins (Wallonie Bruxelles), and Alexander Kamp (Liwar Redines) will also join the American team.
Nibali joins Trek after three years with Bahrain-Merida. When his long-rumored deal was finally announced, he said, "I followed my heart and chose this team. I knew that their project was very serious and competitive."
"The great trust that Trek, Segafredo, and the other sponsors are showing in me is very motivating. I am really happy to continue my cycling career with Trek-Segafredo and I am looking forward to 2020."
British U23 time trial champion Charlie Quarterman joins after an impressive run as a stagiairer. Michael Reese and junior road race world champion Quinn Simmons will also turn pro with Trek next season.
Nine riders renewed their contracts with the team, with Giulio Ciccone, Kiel Leinen, Ryan Mullen, Alex Kirsch, Nicolas Consi, and Niklas Eg re-signing for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Gianluca Brambilla, Toms Skuzins, and Jacopo Mosca signed contracts for next year.
Cobblestone Classic specialist John Degenkolb will move to Lot Soudal, while Michael Gogl, Fabio Ferrigne, and Fumiyuki Befu will join Team NTT, Astana, and Delco Marseille Provence, respectively. Alex Frame will also leave the team, but his future destination is yet to be determined.
Finally, Markel Irizar announced his retirement from the propeloton, while Peter Stetina announced last week his departure from the team and a full-time move to gravel racing.
The 2020 Trek-Segafredo women's team has not yet been selected. Elinor Beckstedt, 17, daughter of former professional racer Magnus and Yorkshire World Championship bronze medalist, will also move to the team next year.
