Daniil Fominik has re-signed with Astana for the 2020 season. The deal marks the seventh year on the WorldTour for the two-time Kazakhstan time trialist.
Fominik joined Astana from Continental's feeder team for the 2014 season; he won his second national TT title in 2018 and took the individual title at the Asian Cycling Championships in Uzbekistan in April of this season.
In 2016, Fominique fell over a wall and into a ravine on the final Paris-Nice stage, fracturing two vertebrae. However, surgery was successful, and in August he returned to racing at the Vuelta a Burgos, winning the team time trial on the second stage of the Spanish race as part of the Astana team.
"I am very happy to extend my contract with the team," he said. I think I've had a good season, and I'm looking forward to the next one."
"One of our main goals was the Asian Championships and we had to make it as successful as possible. Astana and Kazakhstan teammate Evgeny Gidich won gold, while Fominik finished sixth.
"In general, the second half of the season went very well. I did everything possible to help Alexey Lutsenko, including a good third place in the time trial and eighth in the road race at the Kazakhstan championships, as well as the Arctic Circle race in Norway and the Italian classics."
Astana manager Alexander Vinokurov said, "Danil is a very good helper and a loyal rider who is always in the corner of the team leaders. [Danil not only won the individual time trial race, but also helped Evgeny Gizic score an important victory for Kazakhstan.
"It's always nice to have such a talented rider on the team.
