Oscar Sevilla renews contract with Medellín

According to CyclingPro.net, Oscar Sevilla has renewed his contract with Colombian Continental team Medellín and will continue racing until his 44th birthday.

The Spaniard turned pro with the Kelme team more than 20 years ago, racing in 13 Grand Tours and winning the Tour de France's best young rider award in 2001.

In 2017, Sevilla told Cyclingnews that he would not be as happy as he is now if not for Operacion Puerto. After struggling to find a team in Europe, he joined the American Rock Racing team and competed in the Vuelta a Colombia, winning stage 9.

He fell in love with one of the podium hostesses and then moved to Colombia and joined the local Gobernacion De Antioquia-Indeportes Antiquia Continental team. However, his first season was ruined when he tested positive for hydroxyethyl starch (HES), a banned masking agent. Sevilla claimed it was administered as a post-crash treatment. He contested the doping ban but was ultimately handed a 12-month suspension.

Sevilla returned in 2013 and showed no signs of slowing down, winning three Vuelta a Colombia races, two Tour de Rio races, and the 2018 Vuelta a San Juan after Gonzalo Najar was disqualified for doping.

However, Sevilla is not the oldest professional in the 2020 peloton. Francisco Mancebo, six months his senior, has signed a new contract with the Matrix Powertag team. Mancebo also finished fourth overall at the Tour of Japan and is still going strong this season, winning the Ronda Pilipinas.
