Harry Tanfield signs with AG2R La Mondiale

AG2R La Mondiale has announced the signing of Harry Tanfield. The Englishman joins the French team from Katusha-Alpecin, which was bought by the Israel Cycling Academy.

Tanfield turned pro with the Swiss-based team in early 2019 after winning a stage at the Tour de Yorkshire and impressing in the British Continental ranks in Canyon-Eisberg. After suffering a knee tendon injury for several months, the 24-year-old has endured a tough debut season... [AG2R La Mondiale team manager Vincent Lavenu said, "We have had our eye on Harry for two years now and this year we finally had the opportunity to use him.

"We are delighted to sign such a talented rider who will elevate us in the time trial discipline. Of course, we will be relying on him in road racing as well. He will also play an important role in the group around the classics."

"We are very happy to have him on board.

With Katusha Alpecin in limbo during the summer, Tanfield has been on the fence about his future for several months. At last month's Tour of Guangxi, he admitted that he did not know what was going on with the team or the contract, adding that he was in contact with other teams.

A bright spot in his 2019 campaign was a bronze medal at the Road World Championships in his native Yorkshire. Tanfield was part of the British team that finished third in the new mixed relay team time trial event.

"I'm very excited about this opportunity," he said. It's a great opportunity to meet new teammates and get used to the new structure and equipment."

"I want to keep progressing in time trials. I am still young and have a lot to learn. It will be very challenging to evolve in the group of specialists of the Flanders Classics. I can't wait for the season to start."

Tanfield was unveiled by the team in Vaujany in the French Alps, where AG2R is currently holding its end-of-season training camp.
