At the top of the standings after day three of the 2019 Ghent Six Day, the Belgian pair of Kenny de Ketele and Robbe Giese took the overall lead on Thursday night, with the Dutch pair of Jan-Willem van Schip and Joeri Havik in second place by just one point.
The popular pair of Mark Cavendish and Iljo Keisse remain in fifth place overall, but are only 24 points behind the leader and one of five pairs on the same lap as the leader at the halfway point of the Belgian event, closing in on 57 points.
De Ketele and Ghis are in the lead after the first Madison event, while Cavendish and Casey each won a race to stay in the lead.
Meanwhile, Gerben Theisen, who was taken straight to the hospital after a major crash on the opening night of this year's Ghent Six, is said to be doing much better.
Taissen's teammate Moreno de Pauw told Het Nieuwsblad that the 21-year-old will have no long-term effects from the crash.
"I can't get the image of him completely down on the track out of my head," said de Pauw, who won the 2017 Ghent Six with de Ketele. 'Gerben is a friend. You know that accidents can always happen, but it's still intense."
