The Lotto Soudal Ladies team has announced the signing of British rider Abby Mae Parkinson from the Drops team; the 22-year-old will be competing for the Belgian team in the One Day Classic.
A former junior national cyclocross champion, Parkinson will be competing in the Superprestige for the first time in five seasons.
"I will be running the Superprestige series this winter. Cyclocross complements my road training," Parkinson explained in a press release.
"It gives me the speed I need. I did cyclocross as a junior and was a national champion many times, but I haven't done it in the last five years. It was a bit of a shock at first, but now I'm used to it again. I'm planning a training camp in Gran Canaria at the beginning of next year to further prepare for my first road season in Lotto Soudal."
Parkinson impressed on the first stage of this year's Ovo Energy Women's Tour with a solo attack from a breakaway group. The attack was eventually carried to a sprint finish by Jolien Dufour, but Parkinson won the stage's Fighting Spirit Award.
"I love making races and attacking. If there is a race in England, of course I want to show myself to the spectators.
"I also have big dreams for the future. Every professional cyclist wants to be a world champion or an Olympic champion. I don't dream of winning monuments like the Tour de Flanders or Strade Bianche. Someday. Fingers crossed.
Parkinson will be joined by Christina Sigaud (Virtue), Arianna Fidanza (Astana), Jesse Vandenburg (Dolcini Van Eyck Sport), Tüntje Beekhuis (Beeler Pro Cycling Team), and Lorne Mehrens, along with Lorne Mehrens, will be the newest additions to the 2020 team.
"I am excited to start this new adventure. Lotto Soudal is a great team and racing with this team will give me many opportunities. I'm really looking forward to racing next year and helping my teammates. I myself am a classic racer. Being from Yorkshire I'm used to bad weather and I like racing in tough conditions."
"Next year I want to help my teammates as much as possible. I've never done a lead-out, but next year I want to practice that and help Lotte Kopecky and the other fast girls. I want to take my chances in smaller races where I can be aggressive."
