U.S. domestic teams looking to earn UCI points are limited to just five races for men and just three for women in the 2020 UCI America Tour.
The absence of the WorldTour Amgen Tour of California last month hurt both the men and women, and the one-day race in Winston-Salem is off the calendar this year, but a new men's one-day race in Maryland is helping to fill the void. The Tour of the Gila is also not listed on the UCI's recently released 2020 schedule for women, but the men's race is.
UCI races in the U.S. for both men and women will begin with the Joe Martin Stage Race (2.2 stage race) in Arkansas on April 2-5. The men will race again at the 2.2 Tour of the Gila in New Mexico, April 29-May 3, and the women at the UCI Chrono Kristin Armstrong Time Trial in Idaho in July.
The Rally H. Miller Tour of Utah in early August, now designated as a Pro Series, will be the highest UCI men's stage race in the United States, and the Colorado Classic later that month will be the last UCI race of the season for the women.
The men will then compete in the Maryland Cycling Classic on September 6 in Baltimore, Md.
Canada makes a significant contribution to the North American UCI calendar with two World Tour one-day races in September, the Grand Prix Cycliste du Quebec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal.
Canada will also host a 2.2-level stage race, the Tour de Beauce, on June 17-21; a 1.2-level one-day race, the White Spot Delta Road Race, will be held on July 12; the women's 1.2 Grand Prix Cycliste de Gatineau on June 4 road race and the Grand Prix Chrono de Gatineau time trial the following day.
The loss of the Tour of California will not have a significant impact on North American Continental teams; USA Cycling has worked on rule changes to allow Pro Conti teams to compete in non-UCI events, but the two North American Pro Continental teams, Rally UHC and Novo Nordisk, appear to be focusing on racing in Europe.
USA Cycling will again offer a full schedule of non-UCI events as part of the 2020 Pro Road Tour calendar; the 2019 calendar will combine stage races, one-day races, time trials, and criteriums, with the March Redlands Bicycle Classic to the Buck County Classic in Pennsylvania, for a total of 17 events.
James Piccoli of Elevate KHS then signed with the Israel Cycling Academy for 2020 and won the men's final series ranking. The women's race was won by Chloe Dygert (Shoair Twenty20), recently crowned UCI time trial world champion.
