ASO and Welcome to Yorkshire have announced the eight host locations for the 2020 Tour de Yorkshire and Women's Tour de Yorkshire. Four new towns will play host to the start and finish of the race, which will be held for the sixth time next May. [The 2020 Tour de Yorkshire will run from April 30 to May 3, with the women's race on May 1-2.
Leeds has had three stage finishes in the last three years, and Barnsley has also had finishes in the last three races. Beverley was the starting point for the race in 2016 and 2018 and also hosted the Paracycling International in September. Halifax, on the other hand, will be the third time the race has been held.
The coastal town of Scarborough has hosted a seaside stage-finish at each event, but will not host a stage start or finish in 2020.
The four new start/finish locations are Huddersfield, Leyburn, Redcar, and Skipton. Redcar is a coastal town northeast of Middlesbrough and the most northerly to date.
In 2014, the Tour de France passed through Huddersfield, Skipton, and Leyburn, and the 2019 Road World Championships also visited the latter two towns.
"It is always exciting to announce the host city of the Tour de Yorkshire and this year is no exception," said Peter Dodd, Welcome to Yorkshire's commercial director. [We are delighted that Huddersfield, Leyburn, Redcar and Skipton will each be hosting the event for the first time.
"The other venues have already proved to be more than worthy enough and we can't wait to revisit them. [Christian Prudhomme, director of the Tour de France, said, "The Tour de Yorkshire is a true success story and is now one of the most attended and most dramatic races on the cycling calendar. We are delighted to be partnering with a great team like Welcome to Yorkshire and we are sure that the eight start and finish points will put on a real show in 2020"
.
It is unclear how the four stages, and the two stages of the women's race, will be structured, but the full route for both will be announced on January 17.
