Sporza reports that Gerben Theisen was released from the Ghent University Hospital on Friday, 10 days after a serious accident on the opening night of Ghent Six Day.
The 21-year-old was taken to the hospital with three small hemorrhages on his brain after losing consciousness in a high-speed crash with 19-year-old Oliver Wolf Frederiksen in Madison. He also suffered three broken ribs and a broken collarbone.
"Gerben was discharged from the UZ on Friday. He can continue his rehabilitation quietly at home," Lot Soudal's publicist Philippe Maertens told Sporza.
"I spoke to his mother on the phone on Saturday. She reported to me that Gerben is heading in the right direction. We are not going to get ahead of ourselves and I can't say when he will be able to resume bike training."
After the crash, racing in Quipque was suspended overnight, but resumed the next night. Kenny de Ketele and Rob Gee took the overall win ahead of Tosh van der Sande and Yasper de Buist, with world champions Roger Kluge and Theo Reinhardt on the podium.
