Valter completes 2020 roster for CCC team

The CCC team has added Hungarian Attila Valter for the 2020 season, completing its 28-man roster for next year.

The 21-year-old was a member of the CCC's development team in 2019, winning a stage at the Tour de Lavenir and finishing fourth at Il Piccolo Lombardia.

He was promoted to represent the World Tour with teammates Camille Malecki and Michael Parta, both of whom raced for CCC-Sprandi as part of the Pro Continental team in 2018 and the CCC Development Team in 2019.

"Attila Valter is a rider with great potential and we look forward to welcoming him to the CCC team where he will have the opportunity to continue to grow as a rider," CCC manager Jim Ochowicz said in a press release.

"Despite his youth and inexperience, Attila has demonstrated his skills and ability at the U23 level. Therefore, we have decided to move Attila from the CCC Development Team to the World Tour Team for the 2020 season to accelerate his career progression."

The team will be a "new and exciting team" for the 2020 season.

The team was impressed by his stage win at the Tour de l'Avenir, and he rode solo on the long Category 1 climb to Tignes on stage 9, ahead of Tobias Foss, who will join Jumbo Visma next year, and Georg Zimmermann, who will also join the CCC team in 2020. He won the race.

"Attila already has a great foundation to build on and we will add to it the expertise of our performance team. It is especially exciting to welcome a Hungarian cyclist to the team in 2020, when the Giro d'Italia will be held in Budapest and will be a historic year for Hungarian cycling. Hungary is also an important market for our title sponsor, CCC, and we are excited that Attila will remain on the team sponsored by CCC."

After suffering a spectacular and unfortunate crash in the time trial at the U23 World Championships in Yorkshire, Hungarian time trial champion Valter said the move was a dream come true.

"After one season with the Development Team, stepping up to the World Tour is extra exciting and motivating because it means I can take the "step" earlier, which has always been my goal. Not only the fact that I will be riding at the highest level, but also the fact that I will be able to ride and learn with riders like Greg Van Avermaat, Matteo Trentin, and Ilnur Zakarin, is incredible to me," Walter said.

"I want to continue to progress in the upcoming years and I hope to achieve great things with the CCC team already in the 2020 season. We want to have a consistent season and give our maximum in every race. At this stage, my friend Barnabas Peake and I will be the only Hungarian riders at the World Tour level. I believe that next year, with the Giro d'Italia starting in my country, the cycling culture will change and Hungary will have a bright future in cycling."[21
