Tim Wellens of Lot Sowdall had a little more than he expected when he attempted to bike down a snowy off-road in Spain's MontaƱas Basias mountains.
In a Twitter post captioned "When you think you found a shortcut," de Gendt used a helmet cam to capture his friend Wellens negotiating a patch of snow on a grassy and rocky slope He filmed the scene.
Wellens and de Gendt are currently participating in a six-day cycling road adventure from Italy to Belgium, called "Final Breakaway 2," following the 2018 1-day Classic Lombardia.
The start of their latest bikepacking trip had to be delayed due to Wellens' bike being damaged on the flight to Spain and De Gendt falling ill, but they managed to leave on Saturday, making the trip four days instead of the originally planned six.
After finishing third in the time trial stages of the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France, he said that he has made great progress against time trials in the 2019 season and is "ready to pay more attention" to this discipline next year.
