USA Cycling Announces 2020 Pro Road Tour Calendar

USA Cycling has announced the 2020 Pro Road Tour calendar.

The Maryland Cycling Classic is the first one-day race in the UCI's Pro Series.

"As the Pro Road Tour enters its fifth year, we look forward to another strong year of professional racing in the United States," said Tara McCarthy, USA Cycling's national events director.

The Pro Road Tour consists of the top road racing events in the U.S. and is open to professional and amateur cyclists; USA Cycling has persuaded the UCI to change the rules to allow Pro Continental teams to compete in non-UCI events.

The series is a mix of criteriums, omniums, road races, stage races, and individual time trials. Individual and team champions are determined at the end of the calendar.

"We believe that the races on the calendar, which include a variety of events, including one-day criterium races, through to the Tour of Utah and the new Maryland Cycling Classic UCI Pro Series, represent the high level of racing that riders and fans demand," McCarthy said.

The series will begin in Arkansas on April 2 with the UCI 2.2 Jo Martin stage race for both men and women. Further south, the Alabama Cycling Classic will be held on April 18-19. [The Redlands Bicycle Classic is a five-day stage race in Southern California. The race will be held April 22-26. Next up is the UCI 2.2 Tour of the Gila and the legendary final stage "Gila Monster" in Silver City, New Mexico, April 29-May 3.

The Wilmington Grand Prix in Delaware on May 16 will bring the series back east for a one-day criterium. The following weekend will feature the Winston-Salem Classic Criterium on May 23 and the Winston-Salem Classic UCI 1.1 road race on May 25.

The Armed Forces Cycling Classic will continue the following week with two more criteriums in Arlington, VA; the MVP Healthcare Rochester Twilight Criterium will be held June 7-9 in New York City on June 6, one day before the start of the three-day criterium Omnium in Tulsa Tough, which will be held June 7-9.

The Pro Road Tour will return west again with the Chrono Kristin Armstrong Individual Time Trial in Boise, Idaho, on July 10; after a stop in Boise for the Anderson Banducci Twilight Criterium on July 13, they will head to Utah for the for the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, a men's-only race on August 3-9 that has become the premier multi-day event in the U.S. now that the Tour of California is off the UCI calendar for 2020.

The women-only Colorado Classic is next on the Pro Road Tour calendar. This four-day UCI 2.1 stage race starts on August 27 and runs through August 30.

The series moves east again with the four-day Criterium Omnium at the Gateway Cup in St. Louis, Missouri, September 4-7.

The Maryland Cycling Classic will make its UCI Pro Series debut on September 6. This men-only one-day event will take place just before the WorldTour one-day races in Quebec and Montreal, so expect nearly a dozen WorldTour teams to participate.

The 2020 USA Cycling Pro Road Tour will conclude with the Bucks County Classic criterium in Doylestown, PA on September 13.
