Warren Barguil and his new 2020 Alcare Samsic teammate Nairo Quintana will compete together in a number of races next spring in preparation for the Tour de France.
According to L'Equipe, the tentative program for both riders includes the Tour de la Provence (February 13-16), Paris-Nice (March 8-15), Volta a Catalunya (March 23-29), Amstel Gold (April 19), Flèche Wallonne (April 22), and Liège-Bastogne-Liège (April 26) are included, giving the two team leaders plenty of opportunity to get to know each other.
In addition, Quintana will compete in the Tour du Var et des Alpes Maritimes (February 20-23), a national championship road race and time trial in his native Colombia from January 30 to February 2. According to L'Equipe magazine, he will also compete in the Tour Colombia ( February 11-16), which he had also hoped to race, but due to the program's heavy French racing for French sponsors, he was forced to sit out.
French road race champion Barguil is also scheduled to compete in the Ardèche Classic on February 29 and the Drome Classic on March 1.
Both riders will most likely participate in the Tour in Nice on June 27 due to the Olympics this year.
Beyond Liège at the end of April, possibly after a break, their new teammates will likely compete in either the Criterium du Dauphiné or the Tour de Suisse, with both riders choosing the former for 2019. Barguil will also try to defend his national title the week before the Tour begins.
Quintana joined the French Pro Continental team after eight seasons with Spanish WorldTour team Movistar and recently said he expects a good working relationship with Barguil, who has been with the team since joining from Sunweb at the start of the 2018 season He said.
"I am convinced that my arrival in the team will bring him a little more peace, with responsibilities shared," Quintana told the French newspaper Le Telegramme earlier this week. 'I am confident that things will work out between us.'
