Pinarello has unveiled a new model of its MAAT track bike as a "gift to the Italian team" ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The new model was designed in collaboration with the Italian Federation and is said to be specialized for the Madison and Omnium events, but can also be ridden by sprinters.
It will be unveiled this weekend at the Track World Cup in Hong Kong, and will then be ridden by Olympic omnium champion Elia Viviani and Pursuit world champion and world record holder Filippo Ganna in Toyoko.
The carbon Trekker T1100 1K frame is unpainted and weighs 1350g, with a long top tube and short stem to extend the rider's reach within UCI rules.
The frame incorporates features from other Pinarello products, notably the Dogma road bike and the Bolide HR track bike on which Bradley Wiggins set the hour record in 2015.
The former is inspired by an asymmetrical frame design that is said to "optimize frame stiffness and power transfer." On the other hand, the UCI's decision three years ago to reduce the length-to-width ratio to 3:1 allows for a more aerodynamic profile with "extreme fork and seatstays." [According to Pinarello, "We kept the aero performance and bike functionality and allowed the fork to rotate more freely than the usual solution used on TT bikes." [38mm handlebars are not fully integrated with the frame, but have a "pseudo" brake hood to create a "new" position from the drop.
The Italian bike announcement follows that of the UK, which unveiled impressive new Hope and Lotus bikes a month ago.
