Kazakhstan's WorldTour team Astana will use Willier Triestina bikes in 2020, the team and its new bike supplier announced Monday.
The team will end its three-year contract with Canadian bike supplier Argon 18 at the end of the 2019 season, and while no new contract term with Willier has been announced, the Italian manufacturer will be the Astana women's team and men's continental feeder team in 2020. It will also supply bikes to Vino Astana Motors and Astana City.
Astana will use the Wilier 0 SLR on the road, while the Turbine time trial bike will be their weapon against the clock.
"We are very pleased to start our cooperation with Wilier," Astana General Manager Alexandre Vinokurov said in a press release Monday. 'It is a very successful company with a long history and has always been a family business.' This fits perfectly with the mentality of the Astana ProTeam staff and riders, who treat each other like family in their quest for victory in this, their 15th season as pro cycling's premier team.
"We are delighted to be working with this brand and are confident they will raise the bar for us. [We tested their road and TT bikes and both were great pieces of equipment. The Astana Pro Team hopes that these bikes will help us win even more races next year. We thank them for their confidence in our team and look forward to a successful partnership."
A joint press release from Astana and Willières added that the team and riders will work closely with the bike company in the future to help develop new products.
"We are proud to announce this agreement, which we believe will play a central role in the growth and overall success of Willières Triestina," said Andrea Gastaldello, Willières CEO.
"The Astana Pro team specifically shares our ambition to return to winning the top races in the world. It is an essential contribution to continue to create increasingly innovative products that best represent the values of the Willières Triestina brand. The just-concluded cycling season has brought great success to the Astana Pro Team. We look forward to celebrating exciting new victories with them."
