Hagens Berman Axiom Signs Michael Garrison

Hagens Berman Axeon continues to add to its 2020 roster, recently signing 18-year-old Michael Garrison from Roy Nickman's Lux Development Cycling Team.

Michael Garrison is the younger brother of U23 Time Trial World Championship silver medalist Ian Garrison, who has been with Axeon for three years and recently signed with Deceuninck-Quick Step for 2020 and 2021.

Michael Garrison had an outstanding final year as a junior, which culminated in his joining the US team where Quinn Simmons and Angus Sheffield finished first and third, respectively, in the junior road race. Michael Garrison finished 12th on the difficult Yorkshire course after helping his teammate.

In addition to his overall win in Rabiti this season (winning the road stage and individual time trial), Michael Garrison won the Cat1/2 GC at the Tour of the Gila and took first place in the junior race, Tour of the Southern Highlands. He also took 4th place in the junior Paris-Roubaix and 1st place in the GC in the SPIE International Juniors' Rendezvous.

"Participating in the Hagens Berman Axiom is more than just racing a bike. I look forward to being part of a great group of people who care about more than just the results on the line."

Garrison said he considers himself an all-rounder who specializes in time trials.

"My biggest strength is that I am aerobic.

"I also feel that my greatest strength is my ability to think things through during the race. I tend to overthink things, which can be a bit of a problem at times." In 2020, he hopes to improve that balance.

Hagens Berman Axiom sport director Jeff Lauder, who coached Ian Garrison for three seasons, said he believes Michael Garrison will fit well into the team philosophy.

"He was an outstanding junior," Lauder said. He's his own man, but he obviously comes from a great family, and I expect having another Garrison on the team to be as positive an experience as it was with Ian."

Michael Garrison is the third rider to join the 2020 Axeon roster, following the signings of Jens Reinders and Jarrad Drizner announced last month.
