Rohan Dennis signs with Team Ineos

Rohan Dennis will ride for Team Ineos in 2020. The British team has finally allowed the time trial world champion to join the team after he was fired from Bahrain-Merida.

Dennis was a free agent as of September 13, two months after finishing the mysterious and controversial Tour de France.

Initially exploring the possibility of a mid-season move, Dennis and his agent, Andrew McQuaid, decided to look for a new team for 2020; after rumors with the CCC team, Movistar, and Trek Segafredo, Dennis was announced in October by Team Ineos Cycling News reported that he would move to Os.

The deal was finally announced on Monday.

"This has been my dream since I turned pro," Dennis said in the Team Ineos announcement.

"I've watched from afar and have always been a big fan of the team since the early days. It's always been my goal to run with this team, so to finally fulfill that dream is a great feeling and I'm very honored."

"I'm very happy to be here.

"I'm really excited to be here, especially in the time trial, which is an area I'm very passionate about.

"I want to be proud of my team colors while I'm here

Dennis will join his new teammates for the first time at the December training camp in Mallorca this week and will make his debut in Team Ineos colors on his home roads in Australia in the New Year

"I'm not sure how many of them are going to be there.

"I've been talking to them in the peloton for years, so I already know a lot of the players and friendships have been built.

"Racing in Australia is always special, especially for my family who rarely get to see me race.

Dennis spent his childhood on the track before starting his professional road career with Garmin-Sharp in 2013. He took stage wins at the Tour of Alberta and Tour of California, but the partnership ended poorly in 2014 when he broke his contract and moved to BMC Racing mid-season.

In his first full season with BMC, Dennis won the Tour Down Under, the USA Pro Challenge, the Tour de France opening day time trial, and was part of the team that won the team time trial at the World Championships. 2016 and 2017 were successful, but the World Championships and big events like the Olympics did not go as well as he would have liked. But in 2018, after winning the time trial at the Giro d'Italia and two wins at the Vuelta a EspaƱa, he won his first world title.BMC Racing worked hard to secure his future and eventually became a CCC team, but Dennis signed with Bahrain-Merida in 2019

Dennis has been a member of the CCC team for the past two years.

Dennis had a modest start with his new team, but came to life with a stage win and second place overall at the Tour de Suisse. However, things were irreparably damaged when he dismounted from his bike mid-race on the eve of the time trial stage of the Tour de France's 12th stage. No one on the team could explain why Dennis left the race, and the mystery deepened when Bahrain-Merida hastily announced an "investigation."

Cycling News later revealed that Dennis had clashed with team management over a number of equipment-related issues, particularly skin suits and time trial bars.

On the eve of the world championships, Dennis reappeared on a blacked-out BMC bike and won the world title in dominant style. Eventually, Dennis was released from his contract on September 13 and was already a free agent, news of which was announced by Bahrain-Merida after the men's road race at the World Championships.

Dennis' plans for 2020 will likely center on the time trial at the Tokyo Olympics.

Dennis is the second major signing for Team Ineos in the transfer window after the acquisition of Giro d'Italia champion Richard Carapas from Movistar. The British World Tour also acquired talented Spaniard Carlos Rodriguez directly from Junior, as well as old friend of Egan Bernal, Brandon Rivera, and young British talent Ethan Hayter.

Leaving the team are Diego Rosa (to Arkea Samsic), Kenny Elissonde (Trek Segafredo), Christopher Halvorsen (EF Education First), David de la Cruz (UAE Team Emirates).
