Bertizzolo Moves to CCC-Liv After Contract Issues with Movistar

Sofia Bertizzolo has joined CCC-Liv for the 2020 season after being cut from the Movistar roster due to legal employment issues related to her dual employment as a professional cyclist and member of the Italian police cycling team.

CCC-Liv announced the 22-year-old Italian as the last player on the team's 15-member 2020 roster.

The CCC-Liv team, like Movistar, is one of eight new UCI Women's World Teams with minimum salary, benefits, and insurance obligations. The team is registered in Poland but operates in the Netherlands, not Spain, and Bertizzolo's contract violated employment laws that prohibit her from holding two full-time positions at the same time.

"I am very happy with this move and I thank CCC Liv.

"This team is a good choice for me. The team is very experienced and has built a strong organization with people who have been with the team for a long time.

Bertizzolo finished third in the UCI Women's WorldTour young rider class this year and fourth in the Tour of Flanders; she was the best young rider at the 2018 Giro Rosa and won the mountains prize at the Giro Toscana and Festival Elsie Jacobs.

She is on the CCC-Liv team with top riders Marianne Vos and Ashley Moolman-Pasio.

"Sofia has been on our radar for a long time and we are pleased to have reached an agreement at the last minute," said Eric van den Boom, general manager and team owner of CCC-Liv.

"Already in 2018, she showed that she is an up-and-coming talent by winning the Women's World Tour youth ranking. This year, she was in the lead group at the Tour de Flanders and finished an impressive 4th place. She handles climbs perfectly and has strong legs, as she proved in the opening stage of this year's Emmacmen Vila, among others. With Sofia, we have a versatile rider who will be even more dominant in 2020."

Other new additions include Polish Aurela Nerulo, Marta Jaskulska (Poland), and Soraya Paladin (Italy), all of whom will return for the 2019 team; all riders who raced for the team in 2019 will remain for next season; and the team will be joined by a new team member, Aurela Nerulo, who will be back in 2020.

"We are stronger overall, plus we have even more qualities in the team now. We hope to take advantage of this in the spring. We have several cards to play for classics like Strade Bianche, Tour of Flanders, Amstel Gold Race, Flèche Wallonne, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège," said sport director Jeroen Brilevens
