Lorena Weaves hopes for contract clarification before January 1.

Lorena Wiebes hopes to reach an agreement or at least some clarity on her contract status for the 2020 season by January 1. Lorena Wiebes, ranked No. 1 in the world, hopes to race for a top-ranked women's team next year, but is currently under contract with the second-ranked team, Parkhotel Valkenburg.

"I want to go to a team a step higher and I have had discussions with Park Hotel," Vives told Nos.

"I want to make it clear before January 1."

Wiebes joined Parkhotel Valkenburg in 2018 and is reportedly under contract with the team until the end of 2021.

She has an outstanding 2019 season with 15 wins, including two stages at the Tour of Chongming Island, the RideLondon Classic, and the Boels Ladies Tour, as well as an overall victory at the Dutch Road Race Championships.

According to the November cycling website Wielerverhaal.com, Wiebes has received offers for the 2020 season from three of the world's largest teams, CCC-Liv, Sunweb, and Trek-Segafredo, He was looking for a way out of his contract with Parkhotel Valkenburg.

The women's race in 2020 will see a marked change with the introduction of a new double-decker system and a new race structure; the UCI has announced eight teams that will race at the highest level. Alée BTC-Ljubljana, Canyon Slam Racing, CCC-Liv, FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope, Mitchelton Scott, Movistar Team Women, Team Sunweb, and Trek Segafredo.

Wiebes told Nos that if he does not terminate his contract with Parkhotel Valkenburg by January 1, he may not be able to race at all until the transfer market opens on June 1, 2020.

"So I have two options. Either I don't [race] for six months or I move to yet another team," Wiebes said.

"So it's very likely that I won't be cycling because I don't want to run for Park Hotel anymore. So I won't be running for the Park Hotel anymore.

"Then I might go kickboxing. I like that too.

"I'm going to come back in June. Whether there's another team already. "There's a possibility of signing with a team, but we'll have to see what that is," she told Nos.

Vives said she is grateful to her teammates and staff at the Park Hotel Valkenburg for supporting her cycling career to this point, but said she wants to take the next step in her career and move up to the top class of the women's team.

"I am very sorry that this situation had to come to this point between me and Parkhotel Valkenburg," Wiebes posted on social media last month.

"I look forward to next season, I think after the success of 2019 the pressure on my teammates will only get higher and the focus on developing young talent will be lost in the pressure to deliver results."

Parkhotel Esra Tromp, manager of Valkenburg, said that while it is unfortunate that the working relationship between Wiebes and team management has deteriorated, she still has "faith" in working with her during 2020.

"After a very successful year and the contract extension with Wiebes, we have invested for the new season," Tromp told "Nos. It is important that the whole team is built on the contracts that have been signed.

"After such a super season we still have a lot of faith in working with Lorena. It is a great shame that we don't have that with each other."
