Irishman Conor Dunn ends his pro cycling career after failing to find a team after the Israel Cycling Academy took over Katusha Alpecin's license and moved her to the World Tour as Israel Startup Nation He announced that he was going to end his professional cycling career.
Dan was one of many riders who left after the merger to seek new employment. Zach Dempster, Roy Goldstein, and Ruben Plaza also retired from the Israeli team, while Shimon Spilak ended his career with Katusha.
"I am pretty quiet about my plans for next year, enjoying time with my family and taking a break from it all. Next year I plan on hanging up my racing wheels for good," Dan wrote on Instagram.
"Racing motorcycles has been an unforgettable adventure and shared with so many amazing people. It's hard to say goodbye to something that has driven me for so long, but I figured now was as good a time as any to put my energy into a new challenge.
"I am proud of what I have accomplished in this sport. Most of the time I got an absolute kick out of it, but occasionally I was able to win the odd race with myself. But it's not the races or the results that I look back on (not that there are many results to look back on), it's the people, the places, the experiences.
Other riders who have not signed contracts with the two teams include Ian Boswell, Dennis van Winden, and Hamish Schluess. Enrico Battaglin has moved to Bahrain McLaren, the last rider from Katusha to announce a new team for 2020.
One of the tallest riders in the peloton, Dan stood out as the Irish national champion in 2018 before Sam Bennett took the title in 2019. He also won national titles in the time trial in 2012, the An Post Lass stage in 2013, and the Rutland-Melton International Cicle Classic in 2016.
