In an increasingly common move, Lotto Soudal has announced that the team will use only disc brakes for the upcoming 2020 season. Ridley, the Belgian team's bike sponsor, will provide lightweight Helium SLX discs and aero Noah Fast discs, which will be equipped with Campagnolo Super Record EPS disc group sets.
The team's four top riders, Caleb Yuan, John Degenkolb, Philippe Gilbert, and Tim Wellens, will also have the opportunity to customize their bikes' colors for various races throughout the season.
The Helium SLX disc will be ridden by Tim Wellens, who switched from rim brakes, and Philippe Gilbert, who joined from Detunink Quick Step.
"The Helium SLX disc claims to be the King of Racers," said Gilbert. Gilbert said. The agile steering and overall stiffness of the bike is very good, perfect for me. I could even choose the color of this bike myself. So this Ridley has a special place in my heart.
Caleb Yuan, who won three Tour de France stages in 2019 riding a rim-brake-equipped Ridley Noah Fast, will also make the switch to discs. John Degenkolb, who moved from Trek-Segafredo to Lotto Soudal, also rides a Ridley aero model and will choose to race green fades at the start of the season.
