The bold design of Evil's new gravel bike

Evil brings its bold mountain bike design sensibilities to the gravel segment. The Seattle company, acclaimed for its mountain bikes with advanced geometry and sleek suspension, is ready to disrupt the gravel bike market in a big way.

With the new Chamois Hagar, Evil has gone beyond conventional gravel bike geometry.

From its stance, there is no mistaking that the Chamois Hagar is a gravel frame derived from a road bike. The carbon frame and fork have a very loose head tube angle of 66.8 degrees, and the drop bars are secured by a very short 50mm stem.

To most gravel bikers, this head tube angle would seem too extreme, but Evil's industrial design team ensured that the overall geometry of the Chamois Hagar is cleverly balanced. To achieve this, the top tube is roomy and the reach numbers are much larger than on a traditional gravel bike.

The reach of the size L Chamois Hagar is 440 mm, which allows Evil to use a shorter stem for improved steering agility without compromising rider comfort.

With its low standover height and geometry angles comparable to a mountain bike, the Chamois Hagar is for gravel riders who are not afraid of technical off-road riding. Evil also solved one of the major problems that occurred when road bike geometry transitioned to gravel bike design: overlapping front wheel toes.

Thanks to the custom carbon fork and gentler geometry, you can flick the chamois hugger around tight singletrack corners in the woods without worrying about your shoes hitting the front wheel.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of Evil's progressive gravel bike geometry is the significant increase in stability at speed.

As one would expect from a boutique bike brand, the Evil Chamois Hagar has a wealth of clever design details. It can hold up to seven hydration bottles, and Evil is very ambitious with its dropper seatpost specifications, which range from 125mm to 170mm depending on frame size.

Evil offers the Chamois Hagar in four sizes (S, M, L, and XL), with frame kits starting at €2999.
