Deceuninck-QuickStep's promising neo-pro Jannik Steimle is on his way home after successful heart surgery.
The German sprinter posted pictures from the hospital on his Facebook page, but declined to discuss the details of the problem that required the surgical procedure.
"I am currently in the cardiology department of the Brussels University Hospital, I went to Calpe with my team in December, I had a medical check and they said something was wrong. [Last night I flew to Brussels. I had surgery at 12:00 this morning. About 2:30 hours later, everything was done. Surgery ended around 2:30.
The 23-year-old won two stages of the Tour of Austria in 2019 with Team Voralberg and won the Campioenschap van Vlaanderen while racing as a trainee after signing a two-year contract with Dečuninck-Quick Step.
He did not say when he would return to training.
