Tour of Utah Announces Two Host Cities for Sweet 16

Organizers of the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah have selected two new host cities for the 2020 event, now in its 16th year.

The race will start outside Salt Lake City, with all seven stages taking place within a 100 km radius.

The race, once ranked 2.HC, is now part of the UCI's new Pro Series, but organizers intend to keep the emphasis on highlighting the characteristics of the harsh but beautiful North American landscape.

"Although the designation as a UCI Pro Series by the International Cycling Union is new, the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah remains a crowd favorite and one of the most successful races in North America," Tour of Utah Managing Director John Kimball Ball said.

"Blessed with a welcoming host city that rolls out the red carpet, picturesque courses that showcase beauty and resilience, and a cycling community that enjoys watching great athletes, we look forward to bringing the Tour of Utah to Utah and the world in August. We look forward to bringing the Tour of Utah to Utah and the world in August."

The pre-race presentation and first stage of the Sweet 16 will start and finish in Herriman City, the first of the new host cities. This stage will start at Zions Bank Real Academy, the training site of Utah's Major League Soccer team, Real Salt Lake, and the USL soccer team, Real Monarchs.

The race then moves on to Pleasant Grove, where stage 2 will start at the headquarters of essential oil manufacturer Deutera and finish in Provo, where the Tour of Utah was last held in 2011. Stage 2 will either head east into the mountains or a windswept loop around Utah Lake, making it a day for sprinters.

Stage 3 will start and finish in Payson, which hosted a key stage in 2018 when Sepp Kuss won Mount Nebo solo. The peloton will then travel 100 km north to Woodward Park City, another new venue, for a high-altitude finish at the Snowbird Resort.

Ogden will host stage 5. Previous stages from Ogden have crossed the North Ogden Divide or ended at Powder Mountain, but this year the race will be a circuit race in downtown Ogden.

The last two stages will take place in Park City. Stage 6 will start at Canyons Village on Park City Mountain and finish on Park City's historic Main Street.

Race organizers will invite 16 teams to the 2020 race and will announce the finalists in the spring.

Past winners include last year's champion Ben Hermance, Kus, Rob Britton, Lachlan Morton, and Joe Dombrowski.
