Team Skyline Adds Brown and Clark to 2020 Roster

U.S. Team Skyline continues to build its program for its second year at the Continental level, adding 2018 US Pro road race champion Johnny Brown of Hagens Berman Axiom and veteran Australian Floyd's Pro Cycling Johnny Clark, and a half-dozen other new riders for 2020.

Other new additions to the 2020 team include Clayton Travis, Curtis White, Wolfgang Brandl, Noah Sims, and Johan van Zyl, who rode on the Dimension Data World Tour from 2016 to 2018.

Clark joined Floyd last year after racing professionally for Colavita, Toyota United, Jerry Berry, and UnitedHealthcare since 2005; the 35-year-old proved his mettle again in 2019, winning the overall at the Tour de Taiwan.

The 22-year-old Brown won the 2018 U.S. pro title with a daring solo ride in the closing stages from a breakaway group, but the feat did not earn him his long-sought WorldTour contract when he graduates from Axel Merckx's U23 development program at the end of 2019.

"I had a great four years with Axel Merckx's under-23 team, but my time as an under-23 is over and it is time to move on to a new team," Brown said in a statement released by Team Skyline.

"I did not have my best season in 2019 and made many mistakes as a rider," Braun continued. 'I made some big changes and was lucky that Team Skyline gave me the resources to continue to grow. The team and I have big ambitions for 2020 and are ready to get to the starting line."

Van Zyl, 28, moved from Dimension Data to US Continental Team's 303 Project in 2019, but has only competed in 13 UCI days and is a bit of an unknown on the North American domestic circuit at this point.

Clark's position on the team comes after his two previous teams, Floyd's in 2019 and UnitedHealthcare in 2018, each disbanded. He said he was grateful to have found a place to land once again.

"I'm getting pretty long in the tooth, but I can't stop yet. My cycling addiction is still alive and well," Clark said in a team statement.

"The team has added another name to our already solid roster. The fact that this team is contributing to type 1 diabetes is also the best part, allowing us to do what we love and spread the word about such a serious disease.

Team Skyline will retain its core group beginning in 2019, with Adam Carr, Andrew Scott, David Dawson, Justin McElree, John DeLong, Michael Jones, Parker Kaiser, Ryan DeWald, and Sport Director Michael Touch were reinstated.

After spending 2019 going through the process of bringing the longtime elite team up through the Continental ranks, Team Skyline is focused on starting 2020 in Asia and then returning to Europe to race in North America and in Italy.

The team's mission, however, extends beyond race bikes. Based in Reading, Pennsylvania, Team Skyline is part of Winning The Race With Diabetes, a nonprofit organization that actively educates the community about the prevention of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The program holds awareness rides around the country and also speaks at hospitals about staying active with diabetes.

DeWald, the team's founder and the founder of Winning The Race With Diabetes, started the team in 2013 as an amateur elite program named after his Reading bike shop. 2014. he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, the program took on a larger role than simply helping drive underprivileged kids to active sports.

"I'm not ready to give up on inspiring people affected by type 1 and giving disadvantaged youth a chance to live the Dream," DeWald said.

"With the sport at an all-time low in the country, we are at a tipping point and I want to help Team Skyline turn American cycling around. "
