On Friday, Groupama-FDJ announced its 2020 team in Paris, revealing that both title sponsors have extended their contracts through 2024.
The news means that lottery operator FDJ, which has sponsored the team since its creation in 1997, will make the commitment for 27 seasons. Meanwhile, insurance group Groupama joined as an equal partner in 2018.
The deal makes the team the only team with a title sponsor confirmed for the future.
"This contract renewal is a great vote of confidence," Thibaut Pinot said in a team press release. 'To continue the adventure with us brings serenity. Preparing for big goals like the Tour de France, the World Championships, and Il Lombardia requires a long-term approach. 7]
." These are time-consuming projects, and the announcement of this extension gives us confidence that these goals are achievable."
.
Pinot will once again aim for the 2020 Tour de France, where he finished fifth overall in the 2019 event and was one of the strongest climbers until a torn muscle in his leg on stage 19 forced him to abandon his GC attempt.
"My preparation is now focused on the Tour de France. I want to get the best results there and 2019 was very close.
"It has been a terrible disappointment, but having the support of my sponsors during this difficult time in my career has been vital to my recovery. Now I want to return the favor by delivering results that match their commitment."
The team's other main leader, sprinter Arnaud Demare, will target the Giro d'Italia and, for the first time, the Vuelta a España this season. The 28-year-old won the 10th stage to Modena in the 2019 Giro and two Tour de France stage wins.
The result in Italy was the Frenchman's biggest of the season, returning five wins. After winning 10 and nine races in the last two years, he said he is looking for more victories this year.
"I want to change the course in 2020. 'I want to win more and hit it hard. And it is this confidence shown by my two sponsors that will push me to push the envelope. Their renewed commitment is a powerful motivator for me.
"It gives me great pleasure to know that Groupama and FDJ have committed to four more years. Their support over the last few years has helped all of us grow comfortably and become one of the best teams in the world today.
"But this extension also rhymes with new challenges. We now have the right to dream higher and dream bigger. Thanks to Grupama and FDJ, our ambitions will be higher."
