Tour Down Under Australia's U23 Road Race Champion, Drizners: "I'm looking forward to competing.

Jarrad Drizners, Australia's new under-23 road race champion, will represent the UniSA-Australia team in the Tour Down Under.

Drizners, from Adelaide, has signed with the Hagens Berman Axiom team managed by Axel Merckx for 2020 and has already won the Australian Road Championships in Ballarat wearing the new colors, but in this week's race will switch from the U.S.-based team's blue, black and red to white, green, gold and blue.

"I had a pretty good weekend last week and was really happy to win," Dreisners told Cycling News in Adelaide on Saturday. 'I represented my new team, but I didn't race with my teammates.' [The morning after the Tour Down Under is over, I'm leaving for the Hagens Berman Axiom training camp in California. [There are some excellent sprinters for Sunday's Schwalbe Classic and the week's sprints, including Sam Welsford, Cam Scott, and Kel O'Brien.

"I'm from the area, so it's a home tour, and it should be a pretty exciting week. I'm hoping for a good stage, especially in Stirling [Wednesday's second stage]." I'm hoping for a good stage, especially in Stirling [Wednesday's second stage]. I've been doing some reconnaissance rides the last few days and I thought, 'Yeah, I know the right and left and ups and downs around here.'"

"I think that finish suits me, but it's a whole new level of World Tour racing, so I'm not expecting too much.

The Unisa team has a reputation for racing hard in the Tour Down Under, and getting into the breakaway will invigorate the race.

"A lot of guys will want to get into the breakaway, and they'll be looking to sprint for some stages. It's a pretty versatile team and I think everyone is looking forward to it."

For the 20-year-old, it will be his first time riding at the World Tour level, but he is more excited than apprehensive.

"I did a couple of training rides last week with pros like Rohan Dennis (Team Ineos) and Miles Scottson (Groupama-FDJ) at a local bunch ride. I'm looking forward to a good week, learning a lot at this new level. It will be a good experience."
