Mikkel Honore (Deceuninck-QuickStep) was the victim of a hit-and-run with a car during training on Thursday, his team announced.The 23-year-old Danish rider was released from the hospital with bruises and abrasions but no major injuries.
"Unfortunately, (Mikkel Honore) was the victim of a hit-and-run during training today. After being taken to the emergency room, he underwent several tests, but fortunately there were no abnormalities and he was released from the emergency room a few hours later," the team wrote on Deceuninck Quickstep's official Twitter account.
Deceuninck-QuickStep confirmed that Honoré will take a few days off the bike to recover from the accident before resuming training.
"Mikkel has severe muscle pain and abrasions. He will rest for a few days before getting back on the bike. We all wish him a speedy recovery!"
Honoré signed a two-year contract with the Quick-Step Floors team at the end of 2018 after spending two months as a stager. He is currently in his second year with the team, which is enjoying success on the World Tour.
He commented on social media Thursday evening that he feels lucky to be free of any major injuries.
"I was hit by a car during a training run and then drove off. I feel it is time to pay more attention to safety so we can better share these beautiful roads. I can't thank Alice Gasparini (Eurotarget-Bianchi-Vittoria race driver) enough for helping me after the accident.
